Pet Vaccinations for Cooper City Residents

Getting your pet vaccinated at Sheridan West Animal Clinic is as customized as we are. During your pet’s wellness care visit, we’ll discuss a vaccination schedule specific to your pet’s lifestyle. Pet vaccinations protect your fur-baby from dangerous and sometimes lethal diseases. As a puppy or kitten grows older, they need vaccines to boost their immune systems. Mother’s milk provides powerful antibodies, but young pets are left with a gap in protection as they’re weaned. By protecting your pet with essential “core” vaccinations, supplementing with lifestyle specific vaccines, and outlining a vaccination schedule, your pet will surely be covered at our clinic.

Providing Essential Protection

The viruses and diseases we protect your animal companion from are highly contagious and some can even be passed onto humans. We follow the most up-to-date vaccination procedures and provide vaccines which have been deemed “core” by the veterinary community.

“Core” vaccines for dogs protect from:

  • Distemper, which is a virus that attacks the gastrointestinal, respiratory and central nervous systems. It is extremely contagious and lethal in most cases.
  • Hepatitis, which is a viral disease that causes inflammation in the liver and problems in other organs.
  • Parainfluenza, which is a cold-like virus that causes coughing and lethargic behavior.
  • Parvovirus, which affects gastrointestinal tracts and is more likely to be passed onto puppies.
  • Rabies, which can be passed onto humans.

There has been an outbreak of canine influenza in our area and we recommend all dogs receive protection from this highly contagious virus. It can live on surfaces for up to four days and outbreaks have been confirmed in states other than Florida. Please make sure to vaccinate before you travel with your loyal companion.

“Core” vaccines for cats protect from:

  • Feline viral rhinotracheitis, which is a respiratory disease that causes fever, sneezing, and discharge from eyes and noses.
  • Calicivirus, which is a respiratory disease that attacks the respiratory tract.
  • Panleukopenia, which kills cells found in the bone marrow and intestines among others.
  • Rabies, which can be passed onto humans.

Providing Lifestyle Specific Pet Vaccinations

At Sheridan West Animal Clinic, we’ll talk to you about your pet’s habits to determine what additional vaccinations will give them optimal protection. Dogs who go outside frequently and explore around water may need protection from leptospirosis. Outdoor cats may need protection from chlamydia. If they’re boarded, they may need protection from the Bordetella virus. Whatever your pet’s lifestyle, we’ll get your pet protected. Please contact us about pet vaccinations today.
